Did Someone Say…. Gemstone Knife Collection?

There is something alluring about rocks.  I guess it is the fact there is such a wide variety with all types  of patterns and colors and you can usually find some form of a rock wherever you are.  From the time you are a kid and skip rocks across the lake, make the eyes on a snowman or, wear one on your finger, it seems we never tire of them.   This fascination with rocks has led Doug and I to numerous types of collections;  specimen stones,  faceted gemstones, carved stones, jewelry….yes, we love our rocks.

I realize there are all kinds of rock/gemstone collections.  One day while I was researching information on a type of Owyhee Jasper we carry in our Etsy shop,  I came across a collection of knives made from Owyhee Jasper.   Now, I know Owyhee Jasper is a sought after porcelain Jasper which is commonly known as the, “King of Jaspers” but, I had not ever seen it used on a knife.  As I proceeded to investigate, I continued to discover collections of these steel and gemstone masterpieces being showcased.  Now, to me, a knife is simply a tool (mind you, a very useful tool, but still a tool).  Well, let’s just say, these knives were far beyond being…just a tool!!!  Breathtaking is the word that comes to mind and I believe these pictures will reveal my point…

As you can see, these knives are undoubtedly heirloom quality and an exquisite example of the successful pairing of  steel and gemstone artistry.  I am sure they are a source of great pride for the artist and can easily command several hundred to thousands of dollars.  They would be an incredible addition to any knife collection.

FYI…We will soon be offering rough in all these Owyhee Jaspers on our website, www.cascadegems.
